Yrazul Inspirations
Most of the fantasy elements of Yrazul have been drawn from my imagination which is, of course, warped by extensive exposure to fantasy through movies, TV, Dungeons & Dragons and most importantly, through books. I'm sure that elements
within my "vision" of Yrazul are oft repeated throughout the fantasy genre, it is my hope that I've combined then in a unique way, along with some of my own unique items. I've tried pretty hard not to blatently borrow anything directly from any single fiction source, but I'm sure that somewhere within Yrazul, it will appear so. I have freely borrowed concepts from the various d20 rules that I am using, for example, the League of Wayfarer's is simply Bastion Press' The Collective from their Guildcraft rulebook. Those elements will be directly credited under the rule's references.
That said, I will admit to blatently stealing from our own world history in creating the history of Yrazul, and from amongst our own cultures to inspire Yrazul cultures.
Real World Events & People and what they've inspired
Marcel was inspired by Julias Caesar and Ghengis Khan.
Zwin Empire was inspired by the Roman Empire under Caesar's rule.
Jonglet's culture is inspired by the Japanese Samurai culture.
Marnyes was inspired by William Shakespeare.
Ojeeq and the Ojeeq Revolution are heavily inspired by the bloody French Revolution
War of Coins is loosely based upon WWII
The Great Games are Yrazul's equivelent of the Olympics
The Paquena Cup is Yrazul's interpretation of the Americas Cup
Gallileo, Michelangelo, Sir Isaac Newton and other famous inventors/painters/scientists are also some of the inspirations of the various historical figures of Yrazul as well, such as Fiene Boyl and Serra Bex.
Past Gaming Experiences as inspiration
People who have played games with me in the past will find all sorts of inspiring people and events within Yrazul. Many PCs from past campaigns have had their names resurrected in twisted and not so twisted forms as historical figures, events and places within Yrazul. I won't point the specifics out here, as they'll mean nothing to you if you weren't a fellow player, but I will go over the general ones:- Almost every past PC from my Iskitaan campaign sees some mention, the most notable exception being my ex-wife's old character.
- There are several nods to PCs I have played in other peoples campaigns, as well as some of the other player's PCs.
- My personal favorites harken back to our epic and sweeping 40k campaign games of the late 90s. Long live the Marine's Errant!
